Moving Forward

I've always been the kind of person that becomes extremely uncomfortable when not stressed out. I think I've opened with that same sentence before...Oh well...it makes the "always" part of it true. As a result, I usually am far more stressed when I don't have a steady job. On top of the constant auditioning this spring, I have been trying to put several things together. It's great, because it makes me go home and work on something rather than sit and play video games for hours. Well...there was a solid week of video games...but I'll pretend that didn't happen.

The Joe's Pub gig has really started to come together and we are finally into rehearsals now. I'm thrilled to have Jenn Damiano and Emma Hunton on board with me. They have INCREDIBLE voices. I've loved working with both of them over the past couple of years and I know that they are going to be incredible on the 21st. I will also be joined by some WONDERFUL backup singers. They are Anna Bergman and Geoff Kidwell. My roommate, Katie Gassert, will be singing with me on Ryan Scott Oliver's song, "Odyssey." I would LOVE to go on and on about the set list and what to expect, but I'll keep most of it a surprise. I will say that the new Duncan Sheik/Steven Sater song is REALLY good.

The website is still happening. I promise. It's just going to be a long journey. I want to put up a lot of media from the upcoming show. It will be up by the summer. Thank you for all of your incredible offers to help me put it up! My god! If I ever need help or advice it's nice to know that I have such a wonderful resource already. Major props to Lala for designing the current "Under Construction" banner. Mine was abysmal by comparison ;)

Sometimes it feels like auditioning is really what being an actor is all about. The process of auditioning is an art that I'm still baffled by. It can be tough, but the pay off can be so sweet when you get the job. I finally got that payoff this morning for a reading that I have been wanting to do for quite sometime. I'm over the moon to be a part of it. Hopefully I will be able to talk about it soon. I'm really looking forward to it and I think it could be huge.

I'm also working on a couple other readings right now. I'm enjoying being able to say yes to things!

The free nights have given me more time to go to the theatre. The highlight was seeing Wesley in his opening for Addam's Family last night. He's a star and killed it. I was also thrilled to see Krysta Rodriguez, who is stunning in the show. Krysta was my first Wendla back in the day at Spring Awakening. We would rehearse together every week. She is one of the hardest working people I know. It was so great to see all of their hard work pay off so beautifully. Those two deserve everything that is coming their way! I'm so proud.

It's been a crazy spring so far with a lot of ups and downs. I find that the most important thing to do is just breathe and take everything one step at a time. It's totally cliche but it works! :)

Another "step" that I haven't even had the chance to think about yet is a gig at Feinstein's! I can't believe it's happening. It's quite a venue! The show will take place on July 26th at 8:30. Expect a very different flavor at this show than my upcoming Joe's Pub gig. I'm hoping to do more standards and some jazzier (oof...never the word "jazzier") tunes! You will hear about it all soon enough.

Playbill Article

It's 4:00 am and I still have so much to say! Okay expect more to come in the next few days. I didn't even get a chance to rave about Laura Marling's new album!

Matt, congratulations on all these new projects! According the the playbill article and the Feinstein's website you're actually performing on the July 26th. You may want to fix that to avoid confusion :)

Looking forward to seeing you at Joe's Pub in a couple of weeks!

I am really excited to hear about all these new projects.
And I really hope you bring out your CD this year.
Living in Germany makes it kind of hard to support you by buying tickets or coming to events your involved in so buying the CD is nearly the only thing I can do.

First off, Feinstein's? That's amazing, going to buy my ticket right now. Second, I can't wait to hear about these readings you are doing. Third, Laura Marling's new album is genius, I'm especially a fan of "Darkness Descends." Another note you would probably be interested in, new Justin Nozuka album this Tuesday, 4/13!
Enough of my babble, can't wait for the 21st!

Congrats on landing the potentially huge reading! I hope that translates into you being back on Broadway by the fall/winter. After SA and BBB the past couple of years, it would be strange now to visit NYC and not see you in something. :)

Congrats as well on the upcoming shows. Wish I could be there, but I look forward to the videos.

Hi Matt,
Already got my tickets for Feinsteins- can't wait! Loved your first Joe's Pub show and am sad I won't be in NYC for the next one. Good luck with all of your upcoming opportunities!
