Away We Go

Did anyone see Away We Go? I loved that movie...anyway...

Tomorrow I hop on a plane to head out west. I have a sublet on the beach and plan on spending most of my time basking in the LA sun. I will also be 5 minutes away from my best friend from high school, Beth Behrs. Beth is starting to take off in LA and I couldn't be more proud. She's doing quite a bit. I can barely keep up with everything that's going on in her life. It will be nice to spend a month with her, attached at the hip again. We did everything together in high school. We went to the same vocal studio where we trained about 4-6 hours a week. On the weekends we would host or sing at a cabaret in the San Francisco. Yep...we were pretty cool ;)

A lot has changed for the both of us since high school. It's been really fascinating to watch how her career has grown in the LA industry and how mine has grown out here in New York. We also both love our current cities, and would never change coasts. So, my hope is that Beth books a broadway show and moves out here and Beth's hope is that I...just move to LA. Which won't happen. I also don't see myself realizing that I need to stay in LA over the next month, never returning. Besides, I have an amazing job to come back to in New York this spring...more on that soon.

Aside from lying on the beach I will indeed try to be a little productive. I already have a few auditions set up for my first week and plan on having several general meetings (a meet and greet to say 'hey I look like this and I'm here') with casting directors out there. LA is a completely different world than New York in terms of casting. It's important that I figure that world out sooner rather than later. I have become so comfortable in New York, which isn't exactly a good thing. I miss being oblivious. I like figuring things out! Believe me, driving an hour to an audition will be a huge change. I'm used to jumping in the shower and walking a few blocks from my apartment.

The whole reason this trip came about though was so that I could be a part of a fantastic benefit that's going up at The Music Box theatre in LA. The night will benefit an organization called Break The Cycle, a group that prevents domestic abuse in young people. The talent involved in the event is fantastic. My best friend Beth and I will be singing together along with Katie Thompson, Tituss Burgess, and more. It's going to be an awesome night. Check out the Playbill article...

I have a lot to look forward to this month and beyond. I'll finally be heading back out to London this winter which I couldn't be more excited about. I wanted to check out a show or two, do some business related things, and use those endless frequent flyer miles that I built up from living there for a year. I miss that city so much. It will be so nice to spend a week or two there.

I'm such an impatient person, it's very difficult for me to have so much time off. I'm sure several things will also get accomplished until then. I've been writing a lot of original music lately with some friends and I'm excited to eventually share it somehow. Since the album has began to morph into something else, I would like to record several of these tracks and release them. We'll see what the winter months may have in store for all of that.

Speaking of music...lately I cannot stop listening to Florence and the Machine. I somehow avoided buying the album for reasons I'm not even sure of. However, I think "Lungs" is a really incredible piece with phenomenal production values. Anyone that borrows from Annie Lennox's whacky sound is alright with me. The lead singer's voice is magnificent at times. The girl knows how to scream. So if you haven't heard the songs enough on So You Think You Can Dance, Eat Pray Love, and Parenthood...and you don't actually have the album yet...download it.
